Hey gang, wanted to do a quick unboxing and first tests with the new Oregon 1/3rd HP Blade Grinder! This is a blade grinder for lawn care, and here are some examples I got on sharpening lawn mower blades. These are just my lawn care tips and advice, but I am pretty happy with how the lawn mower blades sharpen on it so far!
Now as we all know, keeping your blades sharp and with the proper angle are extremely important for a good mowing cut quality. I decided to throw down for a new Oregon blade grinder, and I wanted to put it to the test.
Normally I use a regular angle grinder and just grind my blades on the vice. I've noticed that with my technique, I round off the corners because I pull the grinder away and cause them to round out. Not exactly the ideal result when sharpening a blade! The Oregon blade grinder wheel is supposed to offer a pretty effortless blade sharpening, so that is why I wanted to pick one up.
This was just a high level unboxing and first blade grinding tests. The first blade or two that I sharpened were pretty old and dull. The next blade was a fresh set, but had been pretty used for the last 2 weeks. I also have a brand new set with a few days wear on them, that I will be sharpening, and let you know how those go! I will be sure to do a few more videos on this guy as well, and give you guys some final thoughts and opinions on it.
Over all, I am pretty impressed. I think it will take some time to get used to, and I think the grinding angle is going to need to take a little more material off my blades to get the ideal 30 degree angle the wheel is set up for. But all that being said, I think the way it cleans up the blades nicely is worth the investment.
If you guys are in the market for one, and want to do some research, check out my Amazon link below. Obviously we earn a little kick back, but what the heck, why not. Every little bit goes into supporting this channel and allowing me to keep making these incredibly awesome (ok, decent quality, but I'm getting better) videos for you guys!
