Video of banding the Two Harbors bald eagle chick taken from Dr. Sharpe's helmet cam, May 19, 2017.

Tiana broke both her legs in a fall from her nest on Catalina Island, CA in 2014. She was rehabilitated and released back on Catalina during the fall of 2014 and has remained on the island for the past 3 years.

The Sauces bald eagles laid their first egg on 2/2/18.

The first chick gets fed and we see an external pip on the remaining egg. It takes only about an hour for the chick to open the egg from this point, so a hatch could happen soon.

Follow Dr. Sharpe on a couple hikes as he searches for bald eagles on Catalina Island. Includes new video of the West End chicks.

A brief summary of the work we did this week on Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, as well as some scenery shots. We spent May 20 and May 24 (in our 15' Zodiac) working on or around Anacapa. The rest of the time was spent on Santa Cruz Island.

Good view of a deer mouse feeding in the peregrine eyrie as we wait for the peregrine breeding season.

An adult peregrine visited the Anacapa nest cave and did some scratching, as if to make a depression for eggs. I think this is the first time that we have seen an adult at this nest since the nest cam was installed earlier this year.

A second year peregrine cached a prey item (bird) in the back of the cave on April 27, 2017.

The Sauces Canyon eagle chicks experience their first California earthquake, April 5, 2018. The earthquake was centered approximately 15 miles southeast of the nest.
